This August, the US will be shipping out three of its major rock exports to lead a musical caravan, swapping spots between Leeds and Reading delivering a three-day musical extravaganza to both cities. The motorcade of artists will rotate through both locations over the bank holiday, filling up genre-specific stages: the mainstream rock stage, NME/Radio 1's indie stage, the Dance Arena and Lock Up stages featuring classic and contemporary ska/punk acts.

Reading and Leeds organizers will also advance their initiative to mitigate the environmental impact of the events. This year the festivals will offer refunds for every paper cup concertgoers return to recycling stations, and launch a tent-recycling program to get abandoned tents into the hands of the needy. Pick whichever of the twin festivals suits you and get ready to collect paper cups to pay for the trip back home.
