"The Dark Knight" Breaks Box Office Records

No one is shocked
It should come as no surprise to movie buffs and box office watchers that Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight enjoyed an opening weekend that bested the record held by fellow comic book film, 2007's Spider-Man 3. Thanks to the hype, the strong script, the rampant curiosity about the late Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker, and tons of midnight screenings, the film celebrated the biggest opening weekend in history, taking in $155.3 million.
In addition to the film's commercial success, there's plenty of buzz that the Academy will reward the film with some love come Oscar season, especially for Ledger.
