    All Music Guide Review

Released in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy, United We Stand features some of the late 20th century's most patriotic pop songs, such as Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the U.S.A.," Brotherhood of Man's "United We Stand," Al Green's "Amazing Grace," George Adams' "Star Spangled Banner," and Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land." There are also several songs here, such as John Lennon's "Imagine" and Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help From My Friends," that aren't necessarily patriotic but were considered consoling at the time of this compilation's release, the former becoming an anthem of sorts in late 2001, getting much radio play and championed by Rolling Stone magazine. Though the songs on this compilation have much in common thematically, they're a rather eclectic group of songs and many of them aren't really all that enjoyable. Thus, this album functions better as nostalgia for a strange and frightening time in America more than it does as an enjoyable listening experience. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
