      SINGER-SONGWRITER COLLECTION / VARIOUS

    All Music Guide Review

True to its name, The Singer-Songwriter Collection presents the highlights from three decades' worth of Rounder folk artists, including David Olney, Vance Gilbert, Bill Morrissey, and Lynn Miles. This largely acoustic collection features Nanci Griffith's "Love at the Five and Dime," Utah Phillips' "Enola Gay," Christine Lavin's "Ain't Love Grand," and Cheryl Wheeler's "Howl at the Moon," along with contributions from Carrie Newcomer, Ellis Paul, and Patty Larkin, making the album a veritable Who's Who of contemporary folk from the '70s to the 21st century. A fine primer for newcomers, as well as a refresher for longtime folk fans, The Singer-Songwriter Collection delivers plenty of poetic acoustic music. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
