Winds of Change (Germany Bonus Tracks)

    11/25/2003 | Repertoire

    All Music Guide Review

This album marked the debut of Eric Burdon and the New Animals, a decidedly looser, more psychedelic outfit than any the blues-singing idol had previously been associated with. "San Franciscan Nights," "Paint It Black," and "Yes I'm Experienced" (Burdon's answer to Jimi Hendrix's "Are You Experienced?") were moody and pulsating, and also fiercely experimental -- one can get a glimpse of this band at work in the D.A. Pennebaker movie Monterey Pop, doing "Paint It Black" on-stage. It was a logical extension of the later work of the original Animals during the Summer of Love. [The record was reissued by Repertoire in 2004, with the addition of four bonus tracks: the mono single versions of "Good Times" and "San Francisco Nights," as well as their respective B-sides "Ain't That So" and "Gratefully Dead".]~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
