    All Music Guide Review

The definition of a good anthology is that it must be comprehensive historically. Like other Boxsets double CDs, this recording has a handful of fine tracks from great artists, but falls flat in delivering an elaborate or accurate overview of the electric blues it purports to represent. The standout tracks -- Bo Diddley's "Road Runner," Big Walter Horton's "Easy," King Curtis doing "Soul Groove, Pt. 2," Jimmy Reed's "Hard Walkin' Hanna," Mississippi Fred McDowell's "61 Highway," and Sonny Boy Williamson's "Don't Start Me to Talkin'" -- cannot make up for the vast amount of non-definitive filler comprising the remainder of this collection. ~ Michael G.
