CLASSIC COUNTRY: CRAZY COUNTRY HITS / VARIOUS

    All Music Guide Review

Classic Country: Crazy Country Hits is a solid little collection of humorous country tunes. The disc has a nice mix of novelty tunes by big artists (Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue," Tex Williams' "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! [That Cigarette]," Tom T. Hall's "I Like Beer," and George Jones' "White Lightning") and big tunes by novelty artists (Sheb Wooley's "That's My Pa," Roger Miller's "Dang Me," and Homer & Jethro's "(How Much Is) That Hound Dog in the Window"). The pacing of the disc is completely scattershot, mixing styles and sounds with no regard to continuity, but it isn't that big a deal since anyone who would want this disc is just looking for some knee-slapping good times, not a musical education. The collection certainly delivers on that promise. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
