All Music Guide Review

Recorded at the University of Wisconsin in June of 1989, Inconcerated Live is a limited-edition EP, issued as a promotional device in support of the Replacements' current single, "Achin' to Be." The songs from their latest album, Don't Tell a Soul (a record that suffers from poor production choices), finally catch fire here. In fact, the entire five-song performance confirms their reputation as a wild and spirited concert act. The adaptation of "Answering Machine" stands as the definitive live rendition, corroborating Paul Westerberg's knack for improvising lyrics from the stage. Their smoking interpretation of the Only Ones' "Another Girl, Another Planet" appears for the first time, later surfacing on the All for Nothing/Nothing for All compilation. A rare stab at the woeful "Here Comes a Regular" is also included. One can only wonder what joys the complete recording holds, and hope that it will eventually be emancipated in its entirety. ~ Bart Bealmear, All Music Guide
