    Rhythm Kings Live

    11/15/2005 | Fuel 2000

    All Music Guide Review

Almost 70 years old by 2005, former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman continued to rock & roll -- albeit with a lower profile -- as leader of the Rhythm Kings. And it was that same year that Wyman and cohorts issued a live set, Rhythm Kings Live. Wyman is joined by a stellar supporting cast -- including one of rock's most underrated guitarists, Albert Lee -- and the 17-track set is comprised entirely of cover tunes, including horn-driven renditions of Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell" and the Beatles' "Taxman," as well as a nod to swing with Louis Prima's "Jump, Jive, An' Wail." Interestingly, however, not a single Rolling Stones tune is included (oh, what some Stones diehards wouldn't do to hear a live reading of "In Another Land"). While certainly not as groundbreaking and dangerous as, say, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!, Rhythm Kings Live shows a group of veteran musicians rockin' and rollin' for the sheer fun of it. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
