Sony Special Products' Pure Country is an effective sampler of Ricky Van Shelton's country-pop recordings for Columbia Records in the '80s and '90s. In fact, in many ways it works as a hits compilation, since many of the featured songs -- "From a Jack to a King," "Just as I Am," "A Couple of Good Years Left," "Hole in My Pocket," "Life's Little Ups and Downs" -- were charting hits.
