    All Music Guide Review

Some pretty good hits here by the likes of the Zombies ("She's Not There"), the Angels ("My Boyfriend's Back"), the Hondells ("Little Honda"), the Hollies ("Long Cool Woman [In a Black Dress]"), Eddie Holman ("Hey There Lonely Girl"), and more. Sometimes the only reason to seek these versions out is because they're in mono or stereo; on the 5th Dimension's "Aquarius," it's just an edited version created for radio play. Occasionally there's a difference worth noting: Three Dog Night's "Joy to the World" has a lead guitar overdub, the Zombies' "She's Not There" has a cymbal overdub, Wadsworth Mansion's "Sweet Mary" has a cold close. Overall, like the other volumes, it's for fanatical collectors who want to collect variant mixes and versions of lots of old hits, even though the difference is very slight. It's true you don't see the Sandpebbles' 1967 soul-pop hit "Love Power" on many compilations, and the Leaves' "Hey Joe" here is in stereo, whereas on the Nuggets box it's in mono. Of greatest interest is the stereo single version of Booker T. & the MGs' "Time Is Tight," which is not only an entirely different recording from the stereo album version, but an entirely different recording from the LP version selected for that group's Time Is Tight box set. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
