I Don't Want to Lose You Baby was Chad And Jeremy's fourth new album to be released within 14 months, which may help to explain the thinness of the material. Van McCoy contributed another Top 40 hit in the somewhat overwrought title track (rendered as "I Don't Wanna Lose You"), and the duo went back to Rodgers And Hammerstein for a singles chart entry with the ballad "I Have Dreamed" from The King and I. Elsewhere, the catalogs of American folkies were once again plundered -- Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" (in a distinctly Byrds-like arrangement) and "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" (both done as solos by Chad Stuart) and Phil Ochs's "There But for Fortune" -- and there was an amusing comment on the history of Mersey beat, "The Girl Who Sang the Blues," which seemed to be about Cilla Black. Clearly, though, it was time for Chad And Jeremy to reassess their musical direction, a fact the album's disappointing sales performance only underscored. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
